Support From independence to now, India’s growth story is no doubt huge and holds merit. But it has also been severely punctuated due to resource constraints. This we believe is further accentuated by a burgeoning population crisis. Manifold increase in number of mouths to feed and lives to sustain has meant acute stress on natural resources, fractured development and a country far from realizing its potential.
The worst part is there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. From around 360 million at the time of independence, we are now a country with more than 1.36 billion people. India’s land area has remained the same. The population density has increased threefold. Although our country’s land area is approximately only 2.5% of the world landmass & we have to feed 17.5% of world population. And not to forget, India has seen a steady rise in the number of migrants too. While on one hand, we have mushrooming middle class who strive hard to increase the productivity of the nation, pay their taxes on time, on the other hand, we have an ever-increasing population, which continues to hinder our development prospects. By 2022, it is estimated that we will be the most populous country in the world.
Recently our mission found echo in a recently published Time magazine article titled ‘’Stephen Hawking says Humans Have 100 years to Move to Another Planet’’ where Late Prof. Hawking warned that ‘with climate change overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics and population growth, our own planet is increasingly precarious.’’ Evidently, when a scientist of this repute speaks, then we need to listen.
The land overburdened with population is putting lot of pressure on the limited resources thus causing a stark mismatch in demand & supply thereof. Despite tremendous improvement in the field of Science & Technology, Space Technology etc., even basic needs of human existence – “Unadulterated Food, Pure Water & Clean Air” has become luxury for our population. Besides states are also finding difficult to fulfill their responsibility of providing Basic Education, Healthcare, Sanitation, Employment etc. Unabated exploitation of natural resources has turned most of our rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Narmada etc. polluted.
All this while, the contribution of Taxpayers by way of taxes towards national resources kept increasing but Overpopulation means that it always falls short of the requirement. It is clearly evident that the population control measures currently pursued, have failed to achieve its desired objectives. We, the Taxpayers Association of Bharat (TAXAB), wish to take this opportunity to raise our utmost its desired concern and apprehension over the alarming Population Growth.
For that we are running a nationwide awareness campaign #Bharat4PopulationLaw. We have consciously chosen to leverage social media platforms to educate people about the hard facts and figures around population through our Audio-Visual and multimedia campaign. Recognizing the strength of Social Media as a premier tool of mass outreach, we have devised an ambitious program to collect 10 Crore signatures/calls in support of our demand for National Population Control Law.
